I Love My Steiff Teddy

At the BBC TV's "Antiques Roadshow" recording, in the Bishop's Palace Gardens.

I noticed this lady clutching her teddy to her as she waited to have it valued, and I also noticed the tiny button in its left ear, a Steiff bear. The Rolls Royce of teddies.
Having taken the shot, I kept my eye on her as she moved ever closer to the 'expert' Hilary Kay. When it was her turn, Hilary said that they should film this. So there was some rushing around by the film crew to get it set up.
Standing close but not in shot, I listened in. It was a Christmas present from her father, in 1914, when she was 3. He died in the trenches during that war. The bear, she said, became her daddy.
She was now passing it on to her Great Granddaughter, on her Christening.
I would have liked to have talked to her myself some more.
